The annual Big Wheels Little Balls Golf Tournament benefiting the Active Force Foundation will be played on June 25, at the Northstar-at-Tahoe Golf Course. Following the awards banquet, which will be hosted and catered by Mikuni, the skating rink in the center of the Village-at-Northstar will be transformed into a rock-and-roll acropolis, featuring the explosive sounds of Black Sunshine. This is a free show for all ages, although donations for the Active Force Foundation are requested.

Black Sunshine, whose upcoming tour will be sponsored by Boost Mobile, was the brainchild of extreme sports icon and Truckee local, Matt Reardon, one of the top freeskiers in the world. After a horrific accident, 11 leg operations and a complicated staph infection nearly derailed his career in extreme sports, he decided to jump into the shark-infested waters of the music business head first. Armed with an arsenal full of heavy guitar riffs and infectious melodies, Black Sunshine’s brand of hard rock is ready for debut to the masses. Drummer Matt “Toast” Young, who has worked with industry giants, including Billy Idol; Ray Luzier (Korn, Army of Anyone); Vinnie Colaiuta (Recording legend, Sting, Zappa) and Brian Tichy join Reardon as Black Sunshine.

The Active Force Foundation was started by three-time Super Bowl Champion Lonie Paxton, along with Paxton’s childhood friend, Brook Duquesnel and Jason Yim a little over six years ago. Since then AFF has raised close to $200,000 toward engineering and manufacturing of four-wheel downhill mountain bikes. AFF efforts have gone strictly towards implementing equipment into adaptive sports camps and programs throughout North America. To date, they engineered the first state-of-the-art four-cross mountain bike and built two full-scale prototypes. AFF is about offering the opportunity to explore, experience and participate in a more active lifestyle in light of physical restrictions.

AFF will host a demonstration of its 4-wheel mountain bike on-mountain at Northstar-at-Tahoe on June 26, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Big Wheels Little Balls Golf Tournament is the main annual fundraiser for AFF. The scramble format pairs participants with NFL football players, action sports heroes, Olympians, and well-known TV and movie personalities. This year’s celebrities include: Jon Condo, Oakland Raiders pro-bowler, Matt Prater, kicker from the Broncos, Jon Dorenbos, Pro Bowl longsnapper and professional magician who will be performing, Nate Holland, Olympic snowboarder, Monte Colburn, co-captain and mate from, The Deadliest Catch’s Wizard, Chris’s  Uncle Ernst, X-Games and Olympic commentator and Marco Sullivan, Olympic Skier.

A pairing’s party will take place Thursday, June 24, at Baxter’s Bistro and Lounge, inside the Village-at-Northstar, where participants can bid on the athlete with whom they’d like to play. After a lunch buffet, the tournament begins at 1 p.m. as a shotgun start and will include a $1 Million Shootout, Hole-in-One for a new car, a long-snap with a football contest and numerous other on-course contests. Generous donations from local companies and nationally recognized brands will pack gift bags for each participant.

Following the tournament, Mikuni Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar will cater the awards dinner on the skating rink at the Village-at-Northstar. NFL Pro-Bowler and amateur magician, Jon Dorenbosof the Philadelphia Eagles, will perform his unique brand of illusion during the awards dinner. A silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind items are available for bid on Thursday at the Pairings Party and Friday during the awards dinner and concert festivities.
